Get to Vegas before Christmas for a big present: rock-bottom rates.

The Las Vegas Advisor says the best deals are from Sunday to Dec. 24. In its annual December rate roundup, the Advisor found 43 Las Vegas casino hotels with rooms for less than $40, vs. 38 last December. Among them are Strip properties such as Bally’s, Excalibur and Harrah‘s.

The total below $30 was 27, two more than 2008. They include Arizona Charlie’s Boulder; Binion’s (its hotel closes for an indefinite period Monday); Boulder Station; Circus Circus, El Cortez; Ellis Island Super 8; Fiesta Henderson; Fitzgeralds; Four Queens; Imperial Palace; Lucky Club Ramada; Plaza; Riviera; Sahara; Sam’s Town; Santa Fe Station; Stratosphere; Tropicana; Tuscany; Vegas Club.

A whopping seven casinos had rates below $20, vs. one in 2008. Texas Station came in lowest ($14.99). Others in the under-$20 club: Fiesta Rancho; Gold Spike; Golden Gate; Hooters; Palace Station; Wild Wild West.

Other good December deals found included Luxor ($40), Las Vegas Hilton ($41), Monte Carlo ($46), Hard Rock ($47), New York-New York ($48), Rio ($49), Paris ($55), Palms ($59), TI ($60), Planet Hollywood ($68), MGM Grand ($70).

The survey used multiple sources available to the public, Advisor publisher Anthony Curtis says, including casino reservation lines and Websites, third-party reselling Websites and the rate search engine Travelaxe. Rates change frequently, and the lowest ones may be sold out.

Rates are “marginally higher than in July,” Curtis says. So casinos may have “finally drawn their line in the sand” on lowering prices. “However, I think the low rates will hold for awhile and when they begin to nudge up, there will be tremendous and more targeted (packages).”

The Advisor (lasvegasadvisor.com), which costs $37-$50 a year, is currently offering a $9.95 special at the Golden Gate downtown for members through Dec. 24.

It was quite the mixed bag of star sightings and celebrity hostings in Las Vegas this weekend. UFC 106 brought a range of comedians, musicians, and MMA fighters to town.

The city had a relatively quiet Friday, fairly action-packed Saturday and virtually silent Sunday in terms of celebrity sightings.

UFC boss Dana White kicked off his big weekend on Friday with dinner at N9NE Steakhouse, then kicked things up a notch and ordered VIP bottle service at Moon nightclub afterward.

Actor/comedian/MMA enthusiast Joe Rogan was also in the N9NE dining room on Friday. He had dinner with eight friends before moving over to Playboy Club, where they sampled the eye candy for dessert.

Also at the Playboy Club that night was Palms showroom headliner Matt Goss’ (former?) leading lady, Daisy Fuentes. She and her mother headed to the sexy nightspot after they had dinner at N9NE.

The mother-daughter pair had dinner on property the following night, too, at Simon at Palms Place.

Enjoy Las Vegas with the entire family

from www.thespectrum.com

Rooms in Las Vegas that may not have been within budget for families with young children are now at an all time low, but what do you do in Las Vegas that will be fun for both kids and parents? Here are a few ideas that work well for the whole family.

The much loved movie “The Lion King” and later Julie Taymor’s fantastic Broadway show is now a must-see in Las Vegas. The Strip production at Mandalay Bay is magical.
Running two hours long it is impossible not to be riveted by the beautiful innovative stage presentation. It is a dazzling, unforgettable production.

Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage is world famous. The dolphin habitat is a research-based facility. The dolphins can be seen from above and below the water as ramps lead to an underwater viewing room.
There is also a video show where you can observe the birth of a dolphin.
Then walk over the bridge and beyond the last pool to the entrance to the Secret Gardens. This is where white tigers, white lions and other exotic animals enjoy a tropical paradise.

Comic-magician Mac King may look like a small town hick in his plaid suit and bowl cut hair, but in fact he is a skilled magician. His comedic sense gets the entire audience laughing.

For afternoon shows, this is one of the best. He does two shows a day at Harrah’s and has recently signed for an additional five years.

Las Vegas shows featuring impersonators give a good impression of the real deals

from www.dallasnews.com

By MARIO TARRADELL Music Critic mtarradell@dallasnews.com LAS VEGAS – Vegas thrives on the facade. Take a walk on the famous Strip and you can marvel at the grand gaudiness of the humongous hotels, most of which bank on the allure of their thematic architecture. There’s the replica of the Statue of Liberty at New York New York, the imposing sphinx at the Luxor, the castlelike Excalibur and, of course, the golden lion at the MGM Grand.

American Superstars performers give the Vegas treatment to (from left) Michael Jackson, Tim McGraw, Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart and, of course, Elvis Presley.

In Las Vegas, eye-popping appearances are everything.

So it’s no wonder that celebrity impersonators – and we’re talking way more than a rhinestone-studded bevy of Elvis look-alikes – are almost as sought after as the real stars that put on a show for the tourists.

Vegas, of course, is the ultimate place for a tribute. If you’re aped in Sin City, then you’ve obviously arrived.

With that in mind, I caught four impersonator-tribute shows during my visit to the only place in the nation that beats the Big Apple in sensory overload. Each presentation offered elements of classic Vegas, and some manifested a keen sense of keeping up with the rapidly changing tides of pop culture.

Legends in Concert

Billed as the “longest running celebrity tribute show in the world,” Legends in Concert at Harrah’s has played the Strip for 25 years. Tellingly, the show has more of an adult feel.
