Let There Be Vinny

from hotelinteractive.com
by Glenn Haussman

Vegas’ New York-New York casino picks a Vinny in a unique customer-centric competition.

vinnyIt was the battle of the century, but in the end only one could win. Would it be Vinny? Or perhaps it would be Vinny.

It’s been the talk of the town in Sin City, on the Internet and over the airwaves as two guys named Vinny have been duking it with witty retorts, larger than life personalities and quintessential New York City attitude to be the new spokesperson at New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

And the winner? Fuhgetaboutit! It was Vinny all the way. Vinny Blue that is.  As for Vinny Red, he’s sleeping with the fishes.

Announced last night at New York-New York that Vinny Blue would be the resort’s new spokesperson, the campaign to choose a winner has been one of the more unique marketing and social media campaigns of late. And according to Cynthia Kiser Murphey, president and COO of New York-New York, what else could be better than a true blue New Yawker oozing with east coast panache.

Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon will be rolling the dice for their one-year-anniversary with a lavish celebration in Las Vegas, according to a new report.

The Glitter star stunned fans last year when she married hip-hop star Cannon in a private ceremony in the Bahamas on April 30.

And a year on, the pair are still going strong and are planning a one-year anniversary party in Sin City at the end of this month, it’s claimed.

The celebrations will begin at 11pm on April 30 and go on until the early hours of the morning at the Palms’ Moon nightclub, says a spy who has seen the invitations.

Mariah’s marriage to Nick was her second time – she split from recording-industry boss Tommy Mottola in 1998, after five years together.

Las Vegas shows featuring impersonators give a good impression of the real deals

from www.dallasnews.com

By MARIO TARRADELL Music Critic mtarradell@dallasnews.com LAS VEGAS – Vegas thrives on the facade. Take a walk on the famous Strip and you can marvel at the grand gaudiness of the humongous hotels, most of which bank on the allure of their thematic architecture. There’s the replica of the Statue of Liberty at New York New York, the imposing sphinx at the Luxor, the castlelike Excalibur and, of course, the golden lion at the MGM Grand.

American Superstars performers give the Vegas treatment to (from left) Michael Jackson, Tim McGraw, Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart and, of course, Elvis Presley.

In Las Vegas, eye-popping appearances are everything.

So it’s no wonder that celebrity impersonators – and we’re talking way more than a rhinestone-studded bevy of Elvis look-alikes – are almost as sought after as the real stars that put on a show for the tourists.

Vegas, of course, is the ultimate place for a tribute. If you’re aped in Sin City, then you’ve obviously arrived.

With that in mind, I caught four impersonator-tribute shows during my visit to the only place in the nation that beats the Big Apple in sensory overload. Each presentation offered elements of classic Vegas, and some manifested a keen sense of keeping up with the rapidly changing tides of pop culture.

Legends in Concert

Billed as the “longest running celebrity tribute show in the world,” Legends in Concert at Harrah’s has played the Strip for 25 years. Tellingly, the show has more of an adult feel.

After Britney Spears wrapped up her Sin City show Saturday night, it was time for the pop princess to party and let her hair down.

Brit threw an exclusive bash in Phil Maloof’s 15,000 square foot Sky Villa at the Palms Place Hotel & Spa for 50 people. Besides her backup dancers, the Pussycat Dolls (who open for Brit) came to party, minus Nicole Scherzinger.

“Everyone kept asking ‘Where’s Nicole?’ And the answer was that she hardly ever hangs out with the group any more,” says a source at the soiree.

While Paul Oakenfeld deejayed, guests got to watch a juggling act and contortionist performances. On the menu for late-night revelers, who hung until 3 a.m.? Sliders, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, brownies, cotton candy and caramel popcorn.

Brit wasn’t the only celeb spotted in Sin City this weekend…

Paris and Doug Reinhardt were sitting right by the stage watching Brit’s show early Saturday. Later they joined Nicky Hilton to hit up Tao, where Jamie King was celebrating her 30th birthday.

Their group later headed to XS at Encore around 3 a.m., where Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson were also hanging out. Wonder how that panel would rate Brit’s circus?
